Yes, they’re insane. They’re requiring black police officers, who wear their hair loced, to cut their locs off, or lose their jobs. Oh, and they can’t wear twists or cornrows, either. If it’s an afro, it must be worn “short”. Yep, it sounds like some folks didn’t take their medication.
Now, to my African-American brothas and sistas: This is NOT the time to show how divided we are, and how many of us have issues with our natural hair texture. This is also not the time for nappturals to get caught up in “who’s REALLY natural”. It’s time to stand firm and say, “No, this is not acceptable”.

A Mad Nappy Girl
All people should be able to wear their hair natural to work. Long dreadlocks are similar to people with naturally straight letting their hair grow long and putting it in a ponytail. If white/Asian-American/Latinos, etc. aren’t allowed to have long hair in ponytails then the no-dread policy seems fair. If not, then it’s wrong.
ALL people should be able to wear their hair in its natural state. Baltimore has had this problem before — they wanted a black man to cut off his locs, but he refused, for religious reasons. They still gave him problems, and he had to pursue legal action.
Well guess what? If they need a “religious reason”, how about this: Because God made my hair like it is, and I don’t believe He makes mistakes, it would be dishonorable to Him for me to be forced to straighten my hair.
I can understand having a length requirement, for everybody. But straight over nappy? How are folks without naturally straight hair supposed to see this thing?
