Just got finished singing the praises of Etsy. Well, today I received my first order — a trio of soaps, by a wonderful NY soap maker, Purusha.
I’m AMAZED at how quickly my order (placed on the 14th) arrived, via USPS Priority Mail. When I opened my package, I smiled — a lot. I’m a very “tailored” girl. I’m not prissy, in the least. So, what I first noticed was the packaging — clean and simple.
But we all know, it’s what’s inside that’s most important. Well, I like that too. I purchased the Hemp Green Tea, Full Moon, and Bamboo Charcoal bath bars.
Here’s what’s in the Bamboo Charcoal Bath Bar: Coconut Oil, Hazelnut Oil, Olive Oil, Palm Oil, Rice Bran Oil, and Bamboo Charcoal, with EO’s of Peppermint, Litsea Cubeba, Basil, and Pink Grapefruit. It smells very fresh and clean — not heavy or synthetic.

So, I got my soap in a very timely manner, along with a thank you note. I can’t wait to shower tonite! :)
A Nappy Girl

Hey there,
Hope you don’t mind my leaving comments–totally not THAT THREAD related.
I have become absolutely addicted to making charcoal soaps. I use activated charcoal powder and add 1 TB per pound of oils at thin trace. My fave recipe uses anise, peppermint, tea tree, and lavender essential oils. One of those things that if you don’t like licorice, you won’t like this. But I love it. Just an FYI, for when you start making soaps!

Zia,
I LOVE Purusha’s Bamboo Charcoal soap. It’s a favorite, and I’m definately gonna try a variation. When I get ready to try it, I may hit you up for the recipe.
Thanks for the information. It’s greatly appreciated!

Sure thing–my base recipe tends to be 30% coconut, 35% olive oil, and 35% either palm oil or crisco (yes, crisco), and I superfat around 6-8%. Sometimes I add castor or cocoa butter. For this one, I superfatted at 8% because the charcoal is drying.
