I very rarely decide if I’m gonna try a product, based on online reviews. Why? Because I’m learning more and more that folks don’t provide accurate info, because they don’t follow some basic rules for trying new products:
- Only try new products on clean, freshly-shampooed hair. Applying a new product to hair that’s already full of product, and then trying to provide an accurate review is pointless. You can’t do it.
- Use a new product by itself — don’t mix it with something else, or try to help it out with your faithful…whatever. When I evaluate a product, I wanna know how it works, straight out the jar/bottle/tube. I don’t pay, on average, $10/jar for a hair product, so I can mix it with something else. If it doesn’t work by itself, I don’t need it. What for?
- Use the products AS DIRECTED, by the manufacturer. They made the products, so they know how they’re designed to be used. Once you become aquainted with the product, then you can experiment and tweak.
- Know the difference between a sub-standard product and a product that doesn’t work for your hair type. I’ve read so many reviews, where folks trash (or give tainted reviews of) products that clearly aren’t made for their type of hair. Some products work best with looser, curlier textures. So, if your hair is very kinky/coily/nappy, the products may not give you the best results.
Okay. That’s all. Yep, I kept it short and sweet! :)
