The Bishop and The Prophetess

A Bad Situation.

Juanita Bynum is not one of my favorite teachers. Matter of fact, I think her teaching is..off, in so many tangible ways. However, I know she’s beloved by many (she’s Word Faith, and very into the “empty your bank account/sow into my ministry/send me $1000, so God can do a mighty work in your life!” thang), so let me get out the point of this post:

A man, who would beat you down in public, is a man who’s got some serious stuff going on in his head. IF the rumors about how they coupled up are true, then God’s favor definately was not there — from the beginning. Regardless, her husband is a dangerous man, who needs….Jesus. He is not fit to be a shepherd. He needs to step down, and get some help.

“Anointed” folk aren’t beyond critical analysis, folks. People need to stop using Psalm 105:15 out of context. So, “putting your mouth on a prophet” doesn’t qualify as “touching”. To “touch” in the infamous verse, means to physically harm, not to call them out for wicked behavior. David couldn’t physically harm King Saul, but he certainly talked about him — rebuked him, matter of fact, in front of his troops. Read 1 Sam 26.

“God establishes us, together with you, in a relationship with Christ. He has also ANOINTED us. In addition, He has put a seal of ownership on us and has given us the Spirit, as His guarantee.”  2 Cor 1:21,22

As believers, God has anointed us — all of us. Regardless of how I feel about their ministry, it is wrong for a man to beat his wife — regardless of her “level” of anointing. If Juanita was the “fry chief” at Burger King, Weeks shoulda kept his hands off her. The numerous comments about him “touching such an “anointed woman of God” are just plain…silly. We are SO into people and their “titles”, and not nearly as into….Jesus.

Pray for the sheep, who are under their ministry, as well.

    You know, I keep turning over and over in my mind, what is God’s hand in this thing, and one of the things that screams back to me is that people put leadership on pedestals, and make them mini gods. Man is fallible, and at any given moment subject to in fleshly fashion be just that! Flesh.

    Now, the way this brother showed his flesh is despicable :evil: That being said I can’t help but argue two sides of this whole situation in my mind.

    On one hand, if the whole marriage ministry was a farce, it could be that this is the whole done in the dark coming to light thing coming home to roost. But on the other hand, I know for a fact that when a ministry is winning souls to the side of Christ and marriages are being restored, and the whole three strand cord (husband, wife, Christ) is strengthened, the enemy is not happy, and will set in motions things to deter Christians or those seeking Christ from just that.

    Now, I have my own personal feelings about which of those two situations may be closer to the truth, and I don’t want to state that here, but this is what has been blowing thorugh my mind in the last two days.

    I’m blown away! To hear such Biblical erudition from a sister is refreshing and reassuring! I don’t say this to condescend, it’s just that we seem to be so caught up in style and emotionalism that we neglect the “weightier matters,” if you will. You have summed it up perfectly! “Touch not.” This has been misused to death. If more Black folk learne dto read the Bible as God and His vessels intended, people like the Bynum-Weaks (sp), and the White’s (Paula, Randy) would not be able to exploit our Scrpitural ignorance. (I think Paula White panders to her Black audiences, trying to “hoop.”) I was so glad to see the way you exegeted the passages here. God bless you in your endeavors. Derrick.
    p.s. ,why do people always speak of “the anointing” as though it were some Mrs. Butterworth’s? As you rightly stated, ALL believers are anointed.

    @Nandi,

    Yes, we do worship the creation, and often neglect the Creator. I worry about a lot of the folks who follow these leaders — their allegiance is almost…scary. I love my pastor, dearly. But I love Jesus the most.

    @Derrick

    Any “revelation” that does not support what is ALREADY revealed in the scriptures is automatically rejected, by my brain — because God’s Word takes precedence and is the only way I can keep from getting deceived. Some of the stuff these folks say SOUNDS really good (and a lot of it sounds crazy, when it first comes out), but the Word that is hidden in my heart (and/or available instantly via computer) doesn’t confirm that it’s the truth.

    I don’t take offense to your initial comment, cuz I feel the same way. There’s a lot of “emoting” and very little reasoning. They shall be known by their…fruit, not their…gifts. We’re caught up in the gifts of the spirit (which are sometimes counterfeit), while we overlook the fruit (which is much harder to fake).

    Amen to all of your points Sis. My heart breaks for the many sheep under Bynum, Weeks and the numerous others’ leadership. They are being lead to slaughter* and are singing and clapping the entire way. We must pray for all of them as we increase our intimate knowledge of Christ so we can lead them to true Kingdom life.
