If I call you my “friend”, what does that mean, exactly? Well, for me, it means:
- I will keep your secrets. If you tell me something, that’s for my ears only, your secret is safe. Now, if you tell somebody else, don’t come at me, if your secret gets out. Best way to keep “secrets” secret? Tell Jesus. He doesn’t tell. Evah.
- I will speak the truth, in love — even if it ends our friendship. I’ll never watch you walk into a lion’s den, and sit back and say…nothing. What you do with the truth, is up to you.
- I will pray for you. I will appeal to our Maker, on your behalf — consistently and fervently, until you see God in your situation, and God changes….YOU (if not the situation).
- I’ll take up for you, when others try to tear you down. I will NEVAH join in, with those who desire to dim your light, or make you seem less than the wonderful person you are. I know you. You’re my…friend.
IfWhen I hurt you, due to some sinful action on my part, I won’t be prideful and stubborn. I’ll ask for your forgiveness, and make every attempt to make it right.- If you’re married, I will always seek to strengthen your union. I will encourage you to love your wife/husband, and I won’t violate the covenant relationship you have with your spouse, by discussing intimate details of your relationship. I will respect God-ordained boundaries.
- I will love you, unconditionally, as God loves me — by the power of Christ. I can love you, because He loves me.
- I will rejoice, when you rejoice. I’ll cry with you, if you need me to.
I’ll do you good, all the days of my life. Why? Because I’m your…friend.
A Nappy Girl

That is a demanding list! But true friendship is more demanding than mere acquaintanceship. That’s why so many people, I included, have maybe only two or three REAL friends in life.
I might have to adopt that list.
