I’m picking up, where my friend, Derrick, left off.
I work at a mall, part-time. I see so many out-of-control children, with parents who seem to be in a drug-induced stupor. What happened to parental control? Seems like children are just left to figure it out, like they’re in the wild, or something.
A mom would rather shop, than look after her 3-year old, who’s about to topple a cosmetic display. If you say something to her, she’s offended and refuses to accept that fact that her priorities are clearly not in order. I’ve seen children, wandering thru stores, unsupervised. I’ve found children hiding in storage cabinets, fitting rooms and underneath clothes rounders. It’s not hard to figure out how some children get snatched by strangers.
“Hire a babysitter, so you can shop!” Okay, that’s an idea, but truth is, nobody (including relatives) wants to keep children today, because so many of them don’t have basic home training and they have no idea what it means to be disciplined. My mother could leave me with ANYONE (but granny was my only “babysitter”) as a child, and I was a welcome guest. My mother would always tell me, “Act like I raised you. If something ever happens to our family, and a distant relative/close friend has to care for you, they won’t mind”.
I was able to go shopping with my parents. I knew that I was not to touch things, without permission. I wasn’t free to run around. I had to stay next to my mom/dad, at all times. I wasn’t allowed to lose control, because I was tired, sleepy or hungry. There were expectations. If I couldn’t get it together, a spanking would surely follow. I didn’t turn into a violent person, because I got spanked (not that often) when I got out of line.
A Nappy Girl

Oh yes! I have witnessed this before. Many times, sadly. But what gets me the most is when the parent literally curses out the child in public. I’m like no wonder why these children are running around with dirty mouths, because the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Its a shame. What happened to respect?
Yeah. I’ve seen grown women cuss out wee ones. Makes me angry at the mothers, and sad for the children. Plus the consequences are far more damaging, than just having potty-mouthed children.
Verbal abuse is…abuse, and abused children often have serious behavorial problems. If those problems aren’t dealt with, look out! The chickens will eventually come home to roost.
