What A Difference A Day Makes

…24 little hours. Yep…that’s all it takes to go from “okay”, to “on your way out”.
My co-worker died today.  I saw her one day at work and she was fine (so I thought). The next evening, I got a call that she was being rushed to the hospital, in terrible, terrible pain. 24 hours changed the direction of her life, and there was no turning back.

She died exactly five (5) days later, of stage 4 cervical cancer. She was in her early sixties, and never went to the doctor. She was a heavy smoker.  She had the option of chemo and radiation, to “slow down” the cancer, or go into hospice care.  They turned off the respirator today, and she died a few hours later.

There’s so much to…say and think about. Get regular checkups and give up the smoking habit is a good place to start. But for me,  God really shook me with “You never know when you’ll leave here”. Your life can end quickly, and without warning.

What would a man/woman give for their health?  The doctor mentioned that she’d been ill for years…I guess she just hoped “it” would go away.  Some people are like that. The possibility of having a life-threatening illness is too much to bear, and they keep poppin’ Advils, until they don’t work anymore.

What an alarming feeling you get when something like that happens. This is one of the reasons why you can NEVER depend on tomorrow, because tomorrow may never come.

I felt the same way you felt when Michael Jackson died. He just…dropped dead…if you ask me. Life really is just a vapor.

Yeah…it’s alarming, alright. Lest we forget how quickly life can change, God allows us to experience periodic reminders. I was quite shaken by the whole thing.

I am so sorry about your coworker. Cancer is tough, but I know you are glad she didn’t suffer a long time.

Life is like dating a celebrity. Right when you are basking in how cool it all is, the phone rings and it is over.

And it DOES occasionally grab us by the collar and slap us as if to say, “TIME IS RUNNING OUT!”

The harshest part about it is how the world keeps turning completely oblivious to the seemingly earth-shattering thing that has just happened to us personally.

The few times that I have had a friend or loved one to die, I feel almost OFFENDED that people drive their cars and go to the store and chat on the phone right in front of me — just living life and thumbing their noses at my pain not wanting me to “harsh” their party…

      Ughhh…you’re right. I still can’t believe it. But yes, life does go on…it doesn’t miss a beat. It’s humbling…
