Growth Aids

Okay…I’m on a quest to get my hair back in tip top shape. I want to do it quickly, and painlessly. So, I’m wearing protective styles all winter, and into the beginning of spring. I’m using no heat. I’ve got enough products to start my own store, so I don’t really need to buy anything.

So, what was missing? Well, I wanted to try using a growth aid/oil/serum with sulfur, to see if that helped speed up things.  It was more of an issue of wanting to try something new and different…for me. My hair growth is average, and the hair in the back grows faster than average.

From what I’ve read, growth aids (the ones with sulfur) can and most often do help with growth rate.  I think having very realistic expectations, and knowing that overall health contributes to healthy hair growth, can lessen the chances of being disappointed. I was ready to move forward.

Some months back, I ordered a growth serum.  It was going to be my first experience (I didn’t have a hair mission, I was just curious) with growth aids. I’d read a lot of positive feedback about this brand, so I thought I’d try it. When I got it, I immediately opened the bottle to smell the contents. The smell of the fragrance oil (used to mask the smell of the sulfur) was too heavy.  It smelled like sweet…sulfur. Yick!  I tried it for one night, couldn’t take the smell, so it went in the trash.

Fast forward to a month ago.  I ordered some products from Sweet Nature by Eddie, which included her Spirit Follicle Stimulator (the sulfur growth aid), Growth Daily Moisturizing Spray and Growth Accelerators (vitamins).  When I got my package, I immediately went for the growth aid (again), to check the smell. No sulfur smell,  with a very faint, soft scent that I can’t even describe…almost like some kind of fruit (it reminds me of a fresh nectarine).  I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now (every other nite, faithfully), and I actually look forward to using it. It feels fantastic on the scalp, and it causes no buildup. The hair close to my scalp is nice and…soft. Here’s what’s in it:

Jojoba Oil, Olive Oil, Avocado Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Sulfur, Saw Palmetto, Gotu Kola, and Nettles Blend

It’s nice because you don’t have to worry about smelling like sulfur, or sulfur with a heavily scented top note (that’s sickening). It’s a gentle, soothing experience, especially when you add a 3-5 minute scalp message (I do).  If you’re pregnant, you gotta pass on this product, because of the Gotu Kola.

Is this a review? No, because I haven’t had time to evaluate if it does what it claims to do.  Growth aids have to contribute to hair growth, and it’ll take some time to see results. But, if you’re looking to try one, the Spirit Follicle Stimulator would be a GREAT pick.  It’s $12 for 4 ounces.

I’ve never tried growth aids. I’m cynical when it comes to that sort of thing. I do believe in “retention aids.” However, I have been tempted to try the Boundless Tresses Hair Balm (I just looked at the website and saw the price increase-yikes!!!……guess not ^_^).

What was the name of the one you threw in the garbage?

It was “Bee Mine Hair Growth Serum”, in “Mango”. I just could NOT get with the scent. Plus, it made me sneeze and my eyes got itchy. Allergic reaction? Possibly.

But the Spirit Follicle Stimulator is just a …soothing experience. Nothing “jumps” out at your nose. I experienced no sneezing or itchy eyes. It contains sulfur too, so I don’t know what was different with it.
:lol laughing at my “store comment”. Yeah..with all I have, I was missing something. Ain’t that just HILARIOUS!

I’ve been using the both of these together for the last 3 months on and off. I sometimes forget to use them so I can’t really say if I have gotten any additional growth. I however love the Follicle by Eddie. Its a very nice oil that comes out of the bottle easily. It’s not anyone near as strong as the Bee Mine. I will replace once I use it all up.

I :love the Follicle Stimulator. A few folks mentioned they can smell the sulfur. I can’t.
