Beauty by Donna Marie created Super Butter Creme… more whipped, creamy, buttery stuff for kinks and koils!  I have a feeling I’m going to really this stuff.  I just know it.

ApHogee Products

I was asked (last week) to try this product line and provide feedback.  I got a box from FedEx today, with all these goodies:

• Keratin & Green Tea Reconstructor
  I’ve used this before, and I it.
• Deep Moisture Shampoo
  Looks good…does have sulphates.  I usually don’t use shampoos with sulphates, but I will try this one.
• Keratin 2 Minute  Recontructor
  “Adds  strength and softness in one step”.  That’s good. Don’t know anything about this one either. I used to use the heavy-duty ApHogee protein, as a relaxed head.
• ProVitamin Leave-In Conditioner
  It’s an “Infusium type” conditioner…watery.  I’ll probably try this out today.
• Spritz & Shine Styling Spray
  Don’t really know what to do with this, but it may work when I flat iron. I definitely can’t see myself using it on my nappy hair.

This line will be added to the list of product reviews for January-Febuary 2010.

Okay, I mentioned I was going to try shampoo bars again…but I changed my mind about which shampoo bar I would try.  I Chagrin Valley Soap’s shampoo bars.  The very first shampoo bar I ever used was by that company. If I’d stuck with them, I’d probably still be using shampoo bars.

But, I started venturing out, and I quickly learned that all shampoo bars aren’t created equal…and most are TERRIBLY expensive, for what you get. I make soap, so I can make my own, but I’ve not taken the time to formulate a good shampoo bar. I may do that, one day.  Long story short, I’d gotten away from shampoo bars altogether, because of what I wandered into.

Well, Chagrin Valley just added a new Ayurvedic Shampoo Bar, to their extensive line of soaps.  The ingredients are AMAZING, and even though it does have a butter in it (mango, not shea…yeah!), I’m still going to try it…because Ida makes great shampoo bars, period. Here’s what’s in it:

Saponified oils of olive and rice bran (infused with Ayurvedic herbs Bhringraj, shikakai, hibiscus flowers, amla, tusli, methi (fenugreek), jasmine flowers, yashtimadhu, and neem), coconut, jojoba, castor bean, mango butter, neem oil, and babassu; organic coconut milk; filtered rainwater; organic aloe vera; powdered aritha, bhringraj, shikakai, and amla; essential oils of tulsi, cypress, juniper berry, lavender, lemon, orange, and black pepper; rosemary oil extract.

Can you imagine how that bad boy is going to SMELL???? I was whining about my decision not to purchase Anita Grant’s shampoo bars, right now.  I Anita Grant products, but I need to wait to order some Rhassoul and some other stuff, to make it worth paying the over-the-top product pricing and shipping (she’s in the UK).  I think her products are worth EVERY penny, but two (2) 3.88 ounce shampoo bars would have cost me almost $50, with shipping. Can’t do that, as much as I really want to.

Chagrin Valley Soap’s shampoo bars are HUGE…at least 6.5 ounces, and they’re under $10. When I went to the site a couple of days ago, and saw the new item, I got real excited…and I knew I needed to order AS SOON AS IT WAS AVAILABLE (which was actually today). The ladies at NP (nappturality) ALONE will wipe out the whole supply!

*Update*  Got it in the mail today (10/29/09)! I’m so excited…can’t wait to try it out.  It smells all “healthy” and clean!    Shampoo day is Tuesday.

NuNAAT Combing Cream

This is my latest find, from the neighborhood beauty supply store.  NuNAAT is a Brazilian line of hair products, and they’re not easy to find. I’m going to try it, for my detangling, pre-wash sessions (on wet hair). It’s not “natural”, so if that’s an issue, pass by this one. You may have seen the products in some of the Dominican salons.

I’ve tried Qhemet Biologic’s Cocoa Tree Detangling Ghee, but it’s too expensive for a detangler.  I’m not using it as a leave- in.  This combing cream is around $6 for 10.3 ounces. I can do that.

I haven’t tried it yet, so I can’t say what it does. It feels and smells good, and the Karite Special line is supposed to be good for nappy, coily hair. You can purchase online, if it’s not available where you live.

When I first went nappy, I was all in with shampoo bars.   But after a while, I lost the love…my scalp wasn’t getting clean and I didn’t wanna always have to use an ACV rinse, to get rid of that “funky” feelin’ that sometimes remained, after the wash.

Let me say this: I HATE butters in shampoo bars. I don’t know why folks put shea butter in shampoo bars.  Don’t get that at all.  Now, I can make my own shampoo bars, but I prefer to make body soap. I didn’t feel like working on a shampoo bar formula, after spending months testing body bar formulations.

So, I was checkin’ out CurlyNikki’s site, and she swears by Mehandi Shampoo Bars.  We don’t have the same texture, but she had me intrigued. When I went to the site, I jumped for joy! NO SHEA BUTTER (or butters of any kind) in their formulations.  What I don’t is the price: $12.50 for a 4oz shampoo bar?   I need to really think about pricing, when I start selling my soap.

Anyhow, I’m ordering one. I think it’ll be nice and gentle, for the winter season. I’ll still alternate with a bottle shampoo.
